Google Goggles coming to the iPhone late 2010
Google Goggles lets anyone with a camera-phone take a picture of text and use it for searching the web. It’s awesome for storing business card information, without having to manually enter in the text. It also identifies a variety of objects (books, paintings, landmarks…) then enables a Google search on the objects. My favorite feature is a real-time video heads up display showing local businesses names and annotated information about what you are looking at.
Imagine this technology evolves in a few years and students have this in their phones, or wear some sort of bluetooth connected glasses with a heads up display analyzing everything in sight. We are going to need to continue developing our classrooms to teach students how to process and use all of the information available; soon it will always be right in front of our faces.
